Hell of the Living Dead (1980)

It wasn’t hell getting through this, but I felt like I had died inside once it was over. The movie has some great cheesy moments (the reason I watched it) but the overuse of stock footage of slow motion animals was almost too much. It has some awesome music throughout the film. The acting is cheese at its best. Especially the long haired dude with the crazy eyes. I also was pretty surprised of the reporter girl who felt like she could sneak into an islander tribe with her pale white skin and just get nude and put a grass skirt on to be among the dark skin islanders. They seemed to buy it though, so let’s call that a win? The movie is weird for sure, but it is written by the same guy who did Troll 2. Check it out if you like bad acting and good music and gore. Everything else is as bad as rotten zombie flesh though.

Creepshow (1982)

The most fun you’ll ever have being scared? Nope. Probably not. This horror anthology inspired from the E.C. comics in the 1950’s was pretty tame. Even Stephen King and George A. Romero couldn’t muster up any real scares. I got to see a zombie old man just wanting some delicious cake, a backwoods horrible actor who also happens to be a writer named Stephen King and various other scenes that really don’t deserve a mention. The movie as a whole was almost a waste of time, there are a few bright spots, but I’ll just say the movie was just fine. I was hoping for a lot more scares, but it was just a cornier version of Tales from the Crypt.

Zombeavers (2014)

I would love to say this is a dam fine movie but instead I’ll say it wood-a been better if it had a few more scares in it. Zombeavers is about (you guessed it) Zombie beavers. After a barrel of green goo explodes near a beaver dam, the whole colony of beavers gets zombified. These little furry terrors turn one weekend getaway into a teeth-gnashing good time. Obviously the creators of this film weren’t really going for scary and by the sheer nature of silliness of the title they were mainly going for laughs (or some of the Sharknado market-share). There were a few moments where I might have jumped, but otherwise I smiled a few times and chuckled and shook my head as the humans started turning into beavers as well. If you like campy horror films, this one gets pretty campy. I could get used to seeing Rachel Melvin in more films as well. Sit down, play this movie and leave it to beaver.

World War Z

An entertaining Zombie film. Sadly there is a weird segment at the beginning that has a lot to do with global warming, I’m not sure what they were thinking there, are Zombie’s created by SUV’s and incandescent light bulbs? Lame. Once you get past the political pandering that Brad Pitt made sure was put in there the movie gets way better. There are some intense and scary scenes throughout the film. Also a creative weapon against Zombies is created for the film. It was pretty neat. Check it out.

28 Days Later

During the first half of this movie I found myself wondering what all the hype was about. By the end I knew why, this is a pretty solid movie for a Zombie flick. Sure the beginning is a little slow almost bordering on boring but everything really escalates toward the end I was wanting even more. The final moments of the film where the soldiers compound was being attacked was incredible, also Cillian Murphy is just incredible in almost every role he does. A very great and smart horror film.

State of Emergency

The movie feels very low budget and I’m sure it was. The acting isn’t terrible, some of it is actually good. The plot is just the typical Zombie outbreak due to a chemical leak. Then the group of survivors hide away with their guns awaiting rescue. Nothing new added into the genre other than another group of fresh faces taking a crack at the Zombie genre. Ix was one of the only characters I really liked and she was in a coma most of the film. Even if you love Zombies skip this one.

[Rec]

An excellent Zombie film. This movie is about a bubbly TV journalist who is sent to cover a story about the life of a firefighter. They get sent out on a call and get trapped in an apartment with a Zombie outbreak. I felt like some of the acting was really bad and some of it was really good. I didn’t want to read the movie (spoken word is in Spanish) so I watched it dubbed, which added some hilarity. The scary moments in this are TERRIFYING though. So scary and great in the end!
