Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles (1994)

This is an interview where I wouldn’t accept the invitation. These Vamps are not the wussy sparkly kind that you see today. These will burn in sunlight and drain you like a juice box. Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt work excellently with each other. Kirsten Dunst steals the show as the bloodthirsty killer girl with killer curls. Christian Slater doesn’t have a huge role, but an important one. Plus I think he’s awesome. It was nice to see Thandie Newton in this, I’ve always liked her and although Banderas had a limited role in this movie, he did a great job. The movie flows really well and you start to really like the characters. Anne Rice is an excellent writer, so it was nice she did the screenplay for this movie. A classic 90’s Vampire film.

A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night (2014)

This is a vampire movie I could sink my teeth into. I really thought a vampire movie set in Iran was an interesting concept. I thought the name “Bad City” for the city was a little lame to be honest, though. I thought the directing, acting and look of the film was great. I love most things in black and white. The music was my favorite part, I felt like I was just boppin’ along through the movie, as a lonely goth-girl vampire was eating people.
Not bad for a foreign film. It seems like most of them I watch, I’ve been a little disappointed but this was pretty pleasurable to watch.

Once Bitten (1985)

It would be too easy to say that this movie bites. Plus, it wouldn’t be accurate. I actually found this movie mildly enjoyable. It’s no Teen Wolf but it has some fun moments. The dance-off between the Countess and Jim Carrey’s girlfriend is quite funny. The shower scene where Carrey’s two male friends have to look for the vampire bite was also hilarious. There were a lot of cliche 80’s scenes and some pretty bad music. This will never be a classic but it’s not a horrible way to spend a night.

Vamps

An interesting movie for sure. First of all the best part of this movie was seeing the PETA champion Alicia Silverstone drinking blood out of a straw that is stuck into a dead rat’s neck. The image will forever stay in my mind and make me smile. Krysten Ritter is probably the most beautiful female vampire I have ever seen. I also fully believe that Malcolm McDowell will be in any show or movie he is invited to be on. This movie was quirky and pretty fun.

Daybreakers

The best vampire movie that I’ve seen since From Dusk Til Dawn. I thought the acting was wonderful, especially Sam Neill. Ethan Hawke and Willem Dafoe were a great team. The writing was probably my favorite part of this movie. It had all the best vampire lore, like sunlight killing vampires and using wooden steaks. It also had some new stuff like if vampires feed on each other they mutate into gross monsters. My favorite new thing was the twist in the movie, you’ll just have to see for yourself.

Let Me In

There are a lot of vampire movies out there. Sparkly vampires, vampires that get immolated by the sun and then there are little 12 year old vampires in a movie like this. I actually got to see a new type of vampire lore in this movie. It might not be new in general but it was new to me. If a vampire is not invited in but walks in anyway it starts bleeding to death. That is pretty cool. Chloe Moretz was awesome in this. She is quite the talented young actress. This is more of a drama than horror.

Underworld: Awakening

The 4th installment of the Underworld series. This movie is once again about Vampires and Lycans fighting each other… except now there is the human element where humans are using UV ray guns and silver bullets to fight off the swarms of Vamps and Werewolves. The story is pretty thin, involving another Lycan/Vampire hybrid. Kate Beckinsale is still in tight leather. So not a lot different in this. The action is really wonderful and the make-up work is excellent. A brainless movie to watch.
