Trumbo (2015)

No this isn’t about an elephant that can fly… it’s about a blacklisted Hollywood writer in the 40’s. This is an interesting movie to watch today, considering Hollywood is conjuring up their own red scare. I wonder when they made this movie, if they knew they would look foolish just a year later shouting that Russian’s were around every corner? Still, if Communism is your thing, go for it… it’s a free country. I’ll feel free to ignore you as it is your right to ignore me. I thought Trumbo was an interesting character and I loved hearing about the different movies he was involved in. He was both very likable and unlikable at the same time. Bryan Cranston did a great justice for this character with some excellent acting. I was also happy to see a well rounded cast. The movie is pretty long, and sometimes felt that way, but for the most part I found it to be quite enjoyable. I didn’t like the witch hunt that was happening to those writers then and I don’t like them today either. I probably won’t watch this again, but I do have a hankering to watch Sparticus and Roman Holiday.

Let’s Be Cops (2014)

This movie didn’t have me under arrest, but I had fun on this ride-along. I thought there were maybe two scenes in the movie where I laughed really hard out loud, and then there were a lot of jokes that I didn’t find funny at all. I would say that this movie fails as a comedy, but has unexpected success as a cop drama. Even though Russian arms dealers aren’t a new concept, I liked when the two friends pretending to be cops get mixed up in this underground world of violence. Jake Johnson was a blast and was perfect for this role, I wasn’t as happy with Damon Wayans Jr. His character was way too whiny and I found it hard to connect with him. Nina Dobrev was a new actress to me and I found her very easy on the eyes, even though her part was pretty small in this film. So, in my final report I’d say that this movie isn’t worth interrogating as a comedy but it might be a movie of interest if you like cop movies. If you are looking for a great comedy, move along, nothing to see here.

The Equalizer (2014)

Sometimes there is no equal to Denzel Washington. I highly enjoyed this movie. I loved the fact that Denzel was not only a really nice and thoughtful human being, but he could also slay an entire room of Russian mobsters in under 20 seconds. The film just oozes style and it had my heart beating pretty fast through most of this roller-coaster thrill ride. Chloe Grace Moretz graced us again with her rendition of another troubled young girl, but she is good at it I’ll admit.  Marton Csokas was absolutely terrifying, I flinched every time he got near a living thing “Will he kill it? God I hope not!” Antoine Fuqua did an excellent job directing this very cool thriller, I can’t wait to see what’s next.
