Mistress America (2015)

Finally Noah Baumbach a movie that is watchable! Yes, it’s still not perfect, but I did enjoy this movie. Greta Gerwig was adorable as ever and I really enjoyed Lola Kirke’s performance. The rest of the supporting cast was also good in its own way. Still, the Baumbach curse remains… he still can’t make a movie that isn’t just another “day in the life” kind of film. I really hate that genre of films. It’s like the reality TV form of movies. The writing is good though with a frenetic pace that will leave you breathless. I also laughed at several scenes, so good job on the comedy bits. Hopefully this is an upward trend for a writer/director I’ve come to love to hate.

Frances Ha (2013)

Frances Sigh. This movie starring Greta Gerwig is so pointless. It was like watching Greta’s movie “Greenberg” again but with a gender swap. I love Gerwig but these pointless films that just follow people around in their boring lives needs to stop. I found very little comedy in this. The black and white seemed to be put in there to be “artsy” and for it only being slightly over 80 minutes long it felt like it took hours to finish. A waste of a good actor and a waste of my time. This movie was Frances Blah.

Greenberg

Another movie about basically nothing. The movie just follows Ben Stiller’s character Roger Greenberg as he house sits for his brother while he starts up a relationship with his brothers personal assistant. The movie really drags in a lot of places, thank goodness for Greta Gerwig. This film would have been unbearable if it wasn’t for her excellent acting and pretty face lighting up the screen. Focus Features has been really touch and go with their movies lately. Pretty disappointing.

Damsels in Distress

This is a STRANGE movie. I didn’t absolutely love it, but I didn’t hate it either. First of all, the casting was great for everyone. I just loved all the girls in this film. Analeigh went from Top Model to being a really good lead actress. Greta Gerwig really was fantastic though. She is just utterly insane and creates the best dance crazes. The writing was the real star in this movie. The lines are really weird and witty and makes you want to watch it again just to see if you missed anything.
