In the Heart of the Sea (2015)

A tale of a whale. This actually was a lot cooler than I was expecting. I was thinking this was just a Moby Dick movie, but it’s actually about the author of Moby Dick getting the details about a giant whale attack for his story. I love that kind of framing device, just like Finding Neverland wasn’t exactly just a Peter Pan movie. Brendan Gleeson, Cillian Murphy were really good. Chris Hemsworth was a great leading man. I love the whale in the film too, it has an interesting behavior to it that made the film seem fresh. I just thought the whole thing was surprising and really good.

Red Eye (2005)

This movie sort of took me for a ride. Yes, it has some excellent tension and both Cillian Murphy and Rachel McAdams had some great performances… but this movie kind of disappointed me too. It was hard to rate this because the first half of the film does have excellent tension and you don’t know where the movie is going to go. Then you see that this trained killer, Cillian Murphy named Jack Ripner, can’t handle threatening a woman who works at a job I used to work at, a hotel. I know giving customer service is a war zone but sheesh, Murphy almost seems like a pushover bad guy in this. I hate to admit it but I was cheering for the bad guy a little in this film, but ended up being disappointed. Still, really good performances and Wes Craven did know how to have a bad guy not go down easily. Skip the in-flight meal and skip this, unless you love Cillian Murphy as much as I do.

28 Days Later

During the first half of this movie I found myself wondering what all the hype was about. By the end I knew why, this is a pretty solid movie for a Zombie flick. Sure the beginning is a little slow almost bordering on boring but everything really escalates toward the end I was wanting even more. The final moments of the film where the soldiers compound was being attacked was incredible, also Cillian Murphy is just incredible in almost every role he does. A very great and smart horror film.

Red Lights

This movie was a great surprise. I knew that I would probably like it with the star power of Robert De Niro, Sigourney Weaver, Elizabeth Olsen and Cillian Murphy. I had no idea though that the film was on such an interesting subject such as the science of paranormal things like telepathy and telekinesis. Murphy was in command in this film as the lead character and the twist at the end was superb. If you like a good thriller that keeps you guessing until the end… see this movie. I loved it!

Batman Begins

The first Batman by Christopher Nolan. This film sets up the story in a great way. Although, I think some of the character introductions slow down the movie a bit which hurts its score a little. I thought that Christian Bale was an excellent Bruce Wayne. The person I really love in this movie is Cillian Murphy as Scarecrow. I just think he is an amazing actor. I am also very glad to see Gary Oldman as Gordon. Liam Neeson was an interesting choice as the antagonist, it’s kind of weird.
