Hell of the Living Dead (1980)

It wasn’t hell getting through this, but I felt like I had died inside once it was over. The movie has some great cheesy moments (the reason I watched it) but the overuse of stock footage of slow motion animals was almost too much. It has some awesome music throughout the film. The acting is cheese at its best. Especially the long haired dude with the crazy eyes. I also was pretty surprised of the reporter girl who felt like she could sneak into an islander tribe with her pale white skin and just get nude and put a grass skirt on to be among the dark skin islanders. They seemed to buy it though, so let’s call that a win? The movie is weird for sure, but it is written by the same guy who did Troll 2. Check it out if you like bad acting and good music and gore. Everything else is as bad as rotten zombie flesh though.

Scary Movie 2 (2001)

The Scary Movie series is either a hit or a miss. I think this movie was a lot better than the other ones. It starts off strong with a good parody of the Exorcist where the totally based James Woods stole the show. I also loved the guy with the little creepy hand and of course Anna Faris. She still wasn’t a great actress at this point in her career but darn she’s beautiful with that jet black hair. Throughout the film I found myself laughing hysterically and then scratching my head, as I do with most parody films. If you don’t like 3rd grade humor, you will hate this. If you haven’t moved out of that maturity level with your humor like me, then you will have quite a few giggles and squirt chocolate milk out of your nose.

Re-Animator (1985)

This movie was certainly animated and re-animated over again. I must say, I LOVE this movie. It has a ton of gore and even more laughs. The violence is quite extreme, but in a mostly silly way. I thought that the special effects (although almost purposely cheesy) had some really great moments too. The head in the pan was brilliant. Jeffrey Combs playing as Herbert West was awesome. I think he’s a pretty underrated actor. Most people watching this might think I’m crazy for loving it so much, but I just can’t help but love a cheesy 80’s horror film very loosely based off of a H.P. Lovecraft tale.

The Secret Life of Pets (2016)

I love animals, so I thought this was the perfect movie to see. The trailer is a little deceptive though. It looked like it was just going to be a carefree movie with some good humor, about the secret things pets do while us humans are out of the house. Instead, there is a sibling rivalry between two dogs, and evil gang of unwanted pets and a lot of running around with chase scenes. The movie was pretty exhausting actually for a kids movie. It has some very moving scenes though, and I was on vacation at the time and had left my pet with a house sitter. It made me feel immensely guilty and I teared up a few times thinking about my dog. This is a pretty good movie though, it’s done by the same people who did Despicable Me. I just wish the trailer wasn’t so deceptive, making this movie look really cute and fun while it might actually be a little scary for young children. Give this one a sniff if you are an animal lover.
