The Danish Girl (2015)

Well the name Lili is ruined for me. I must say I didn’t care for this movie. I’m a huge fan of Alicia Vikander and she was really, really good in this. Eddie Redmayne is also a good actor, but I just couldn’t get into his acting for this role. The whole movie just felt like Oscar-bait. In 2015 the transgender movement was swelling into a tsunami and lo and behold this film was made to sweep the Oscars. I don’t mind a movie on this subject, but this whole thing just felt like pandering at the highest level. I’m just glad I only had to see it once.

Burnt (2015)

I feel a little burnt by this one. Bradley Cooper does have a good performance as Adam Jones, a diva in the kitchen. I just don’t love movies like this. I felt like I was watching a reality TV show on the Food Network. It’s also hard to like a character when he’s cursing and breaking plates around a kitchen screaming that things aren’t perfect. The one part I liked about this movie was when he was collecting the other chefs for his kitchen. That part felt like an Ocean’s Eleven movie, getting his band together. There’s a great twist in this movie at one point, I thought it was well played… but otherwise this movie was just fine. Not worth 3 Michelin stars.

The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (2015)

Uncle, uncle! I finally saw this movie, it took some arm twisting but I’m glad I finally saw it. I’m not sure why but I love Armie Hammer. He’s in some pretty iffy movies but he’s just a fun actor to watch. Henry Cavill was also pretty smooth in this spy movie about the Russians and Americans doing a joint mission. Hugh Grant had a small part but it was nice to see him again and Alicia Vikander is one of my new dream girls. She’s gorgeous and pretty great at acting. This movie isn’t great throughout, but it has some really good James Bond-esque moments. If you like spy movies this one is a pretty good one to check out, if you don’t even like to spy on your neighbor’s then you could probably skip this one.

Ex Machina (2015)

I thought this movie was going to be more like Sex Machina from how the trailer portrayed the film… instead of it being about smutty robots though, I was pleasantly surprised at how deep and intriguing the plot was in this movie. There was some robotic nudity, circuits and all but I loved the naked emotion from actress Alicia Vikander. She did a great job as Ava the robot. Domhnall Gleeson and Oscar Isaac were awesome with their back and forth tension over how the robotic research was being done. I was just blown away by how cool and engaging this film was, the time just flew by. If you like a good thriller, cool science fiction and sexy robots that could possibly kill you then boot-up your favorite device and plug yourself into a great sci-fi movie.
