Detachment (2011)

I kind of wish Adrien Brody would detach himself from Hollywood. I’ve never really liked him as an actor. The thing is, I think he whispers his lines too much and then calls that acting. This movie was depressing. First of all it was almost a giant ad for “WE HATE NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND” and this movie doesn’t let you forget that. Then Brody has unhealthy attachments to underage girls (living with a prostitute for most of the movie). It makes all racial groups into a harsh light, showing Asian girls as being slutty, black students as being almost viscous and white people as suicidal sociopaths. I think also this movie should be shown to teachers before they get their first job, so they can expect the worst and not be surprised. This movie was a real downer, and it doesn’t make you feel too good about humanity or the American education system.

inAPPropriate Comedy

This movie had a lot more laughs than Movie 43 and is practically a carbon copy of it. The film selects different apps on a tablet and then different comedy skits pop up. The best was the Amazing Racist just for the sheer fact that it boldly goes into some really racist comedy where nearly everyone is not safe. Most of the time in this film, they do something inAPPropriate and the other people go, you can do that or say that! It gets old after the first 15 minutes. Pretty bad.

The Village

Definitely M. Night’s weaker movie. The weakest thing wasn’t the twists (although they were bad) it was Adrien Brody’s portrayal of the mentally challenged villager. It was really bordering on offensive and if Tropic Thunder had come out before this he would have received a good tip from that movie. The saving grace of this film was Bryce Dallas Howard. She was very interesting to watch and did a fantastic acting job. She is also quite gorgeous. This Village has bigger problems than monsters.

Predators

This movie was pretty cool but it had a few problems. I don’t think that Brody is an action star. Half the time I started chuckling because he’s using the gruff Batman voice to sound more like an action hero. I also laughed when he attacked the Predator shirtless. I’m not sure why but Adrien Brody wrasslin’ with a Predator is just a bit too funny to me. I’m also wondering what the heck was up with Fishburne’s part. It was just weird. I did love the effects and monster’s in this very cool.

Hollywoodland

Adrian Brody isn’t one of my favorite actors, neither is Ben Affleck. I tried not to let that affect my judgement on this film. I actually really liked this movie for the most part. It had a very interesting story and I liked the time period that it was set in. I also had some working knowledge of this “suicide of Superman” case. Despite all of that this movie had some really boring parts and had a very vague ending that just ended up disappointing me. I liked it up until the end. Then… blah
