The Age of Adaline (2015)

I could feel myself aging during this film. It just felt a little too long. I also think they put a few things in this to just make it sad for no reason. I do like Blake Lively and she is very pretty in this film, very classy. Harrison Ford was a huge surprise as I didn’t know he was in this when I started the movie. The subject matter of this film is very enthralling but it doesn’t go anywhere all that interesting. It’s all very sweet though, and despite the fact that I didn’t love it, I’ll say it is a fine movie, just nothing to write home about.

Krampus (2015)

A PG-13 horror film and it sort of Kramped its style. This movie had some highs and lows. I thought that some of the characters were really fun like the two mean twin girls. Then there was the main family that were a little boring. I love Adam Scott and Toni Collette, but they were kind of boring in this film. I liked the German Grandmother, she was pretty hardcore. The bad guys had some awesome looks to them, except for the Gingerbread Men. I thought those were dumb. The elves and the Jack in the Box enemies were amazing though. Krampus himself was pretty scary looking, except at times, his face looked like a fake mask. Like I said, some highs and lows. I only got a little scared once and it had very few laughs. If a horror movie isn’t scary, I like it to at least be funny. That’s why this movie was almost good, except it wasn’t.

Warcraft: The Beginning (2016)

Wow. Well, I finally know something about Warcraft. I’ve played multiplayer role playing games online before but never this series. The story is pretty generic with humans fighting Orcs and wizards and stuff. I did think the production value of the film was great. The Orcs looked really cool and I loved the different types of magic. The female Orc played by Paula Patton was oddly strikingly beautiful. It was nice seeing Ben Foster around again. He had a pretty interesting character as a champion of the realm. The weapons and fighting were pretty epic. I’m not fully sure if this movie was based off the strategy game or the role playing game. If it was the RPG I wish they would have put some jokes in like players bickering over healing or somebody being a loot ninja and stealing all the spoils at the end of a dungeon. Oh well, one can dream. Still, I found this movie to be surprisingly good, but I had a low bar set for it when I went into it.

Suicide Squad (2016)

Is it a suicide mission to have a super hero movie starring the villains? It shouldn’t be. I thought this movie was okay. It wasn’t wonderful by any means, but I enjoyed some parts of it. Margot Robbie was born to be Harley for sure. She looked Ah-mazing. I didn’t like Leto as the Joker though. His look and performance didn’t do anything for me. I hated Will Smith. He could have been removed halfway through the film and I wouldn’t have noticed. Viola Davis was an incredibly unlikable person throughout the film. The parts with Batman (Ben Affleck) were strange and felt like they were just thrown in. This movie could have had promise, I’ve always liked bad guys in movies. It just lacked a lot of heart.

Paddington (2015)

A great family comedy without the extra padding that films throw in. I loved this story, a young Peruvian bear from Darkest Peru comes to London to start a new life. Paddington is probably one of the cutest animated things I’ve seen since Agnes from Despicable Me. The animation on him is gorgeous. I also loved the family that takes care of Paddington. They are all fun in their own unique way. Nicole Kidman plays an excellent bad guy (although maybe a little shallow). I just laughed and smiled through this whole movie and like I said it contained little to no padding. I hate when movies are like 2+ hours long because they feel like just throwing in a ton of filler. I felt very satisfied with this movie and it was only about an hour and a half long. Awesome movie, watch this one for sure!

A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night (2014)

This is a vampire movie I could sink my teeth into. I really thought a vampire movie set in Iran was an interesting concept. I thought the name “Bad City” for the city was a little lame to be honest, though. I thought the directing, acting and look of the film was great. I love most things in black and white. The music was my favorite part, I felt like I was just boppin’ along through the movie, as a lonely goth-girl vampire was eating people.
Not bad for a foreign film. It seems like most of them I watch, I’ve been a little disappointed but this was pretty pleasurable to watch.

Doctor Strange (2016)

I haven’t watched or reviewed a movie in a while… and it felt strange. I thought I would try and get back on the horse and do a fun Marvel movie. I did really like this one. It has a good mix of humor and dead seriousness. I feel like I had a small working knowledge of the characters of this film, from a few Marvel video games that I’ve tried. So it helped to know some story and names beforehand. Benedict Cumberbatch is wonderful as usual and he looks awesome as a super hero. The supporting cast of Ejiofor, Swinton, McAdams and Mikkelsen made this a very watchable film. I’ve been feeling burnt out from the endless hero movies, but I did like this one. Magic is always fun. I’ll look forward to the next 10 sequels for this series. I would recommend you see this if you like a strong male lead and some really interesting special effects that are on par with Inception.
