The Witch (2016)

This New-England folk-tale got my goat pretty badly. The movie has a slow pace and you don’t know what the heck is going on (until you turn on the subtitles to find out what they are saying in their thick accents). When you finally find out what’s happening, you want more but then the movie ends and sort of just floats away one could say. I loved the character of Black Philip and Thomasin (played by Anya Taylor-Joy) was pretty breathtaking. I loved the setting out in the woods and I loved the whole feeling of unknown and wondering what would happen next. I’m almost hoping for a sequel but I won’t hold my breath. If it wasn’t for the thick accents and slow scenes this movie could have been perfect. One would say it sort of bewitched me.

75/100
