Once upon a time there was a man name noodles, played by Robert De Niro, who starred in a 4 hour long film done by Sergio Leone. I found myself feeling some trepidation as I sat down for this film, because the sheer length of it scared me. It took me two viewings, one day 45 minutes and the other over 3 hours. I finally made it through and I would say it is a really good movie, if you have the patience for it. I think the cast was awesome, especially James Woods, De Niro and Elizabeth McGovern. The story is pretty sprawling and there are some time jumps that I don’t love, but I think the overall story was good and it’s an epic crime drama. The violence is pretty crazy and there are a few scenes that are hard to watch. Some of the music was good, but some songs in the score are overused. There was a scene with a phone ringing for like ten minutes that drove me crazy, so I’m not a fan of the sound effects guy. It is a great movie and don’t let me talk you out of it in any way, just give yourself a full free day or a couple days to get it finished. It’s worth it.
