The final Hobbit hobbles along with some clumsy furry feet to finish out the series. This one almost felt more disappointed than the middle film because I was expecting this spectacular finish, almost like the final Harry Potter film, but instead there was a man with a uni-brow stuffing coins down his corset. The dwarves were pretty unlikable in this movie, especially compared to the first film. I hate Peter Jackson’s epic fights where there are thousands of people fighting all at once, these movies shine when there are the one on one battles. I prefer those fights because I can follow them and appreciate the choreography that goes into them. As always, the costumes, sets and make-up are spot-on. No complaints there. Some of the computer CGI seemed a little weird. When the whole thing was over I just felt underwhelmed for the series. I loved this book and have read it a few times throughout my life, but this film left me with the cold embers of a pipe-weed pipe in my heart and not the roaring fire that Smaug would leave.
