I couldn’t decide what was more wild, Reese before her hike or after her hike on the Pacific Coast Trail. This movie was just fine, not really good or bad. Reese Witherspoon had a good performance and had to do some emotionally wrought scenes, I also like Laura Dern’s performance as well. Some of the edititing was good and I like the film’s soundtrack. But this movie was as depressing as an empty tank of water or a boot falling down a cliff. The film is rife with cancer, drug/sex addiction and several scenes of almost-rapes. More uncomfortable than inspiring, I found myself saying “I’d love to do a big hike like this, to ten minutes later saying, nah actually that looks horrible. The movie bounces around a lot in flashbacks, I’m not really a fan of that kind of storytelling. Like I said, it’s a fine movie, but I’ll probably forget that I watched it.
