The Green Mile (1999)

I’m in Heaven when I see a movie this good. Normally I would look at a run-time of a film set at 3 hours and 9 minutes and sigh, but this film hardly feels long at all. I love the time period that the movie is set in, I love the wide variety of cast members and characters. The costumes are great, the music is great. There is also an excellent bad guy… Percy. I would put him in my top ten best villains in a film. Stephen King’s movies do not always translate into good movies but this one hits it out of the park. It doesn’t hurt when Tom Hanks and Michael Clarke Duncan lead the cast. The movie’s real moments are great and their supernatural moments are even better. It’s an excellent blend of sci-fi and a prison film.
I can’t say enough good things about this, I’ll just say that the only reason it didn’t get a perfect score was that there were a couple of scenes that felt like they didn’t need to be there and it would have helped with the monstrous length of the film. Because let’s face it, nobody likes being in Prison and nobody wants to do the time of a three hour long movie, no matter how good it is. I suppose if this was made today it would have been split into at least 4 movies… so lets be thankful we don’t have to go through that. Why are you still reading this? Watch this film if you haven’t already!

98/100
