Devil’s Due (2014)

Devil’s Due, the bio-pic about the birth of the Director of this film, because let’s be honest… only the Anti-Christ can make a film this bad. OK, I’m being a bit harsh… but can the found-footage horror genre die already? Do they still make camcorders? Of course, I guess the logical next step is to film these with iPhones. Once again you hear the film explain 666 times why the characters are holding cameras the whole time. Unlikable characters litter this film, so you really have no one to cheer for. There was one cool shot in the woods towards the end but otherwise avoid this and the obvious sequel because this film almost puts LOOK FOR THE SEQUEL at the end of the film.

Blade (1998)

I’ve seen enough vampire movies throughout the years for someone to tell me that I’m getting a little long in the tooth! I won’t take that as an insult though, because the cool vampires in this film have long teeth and they get cool action flicks made about them! Wesley Snipes is the day-walker Blade who hunts vampires. He wears all black and gives a beat-down using garlic, silver and blood thinners! The action is great, the acting really isn’t. The sets are pretty neat, especially the vampire temple. This is very gory and rated R, but it’s a nice change to see a more adult Marvel movie. It’s worth seeing at least once.

10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

There are more than 10 things I love about this semi-raunchy teen romance film. So I won’t try to name them all… but here goes. I love the cast, they all have really good chemistry and work well together. I love the 90’s alternative soundtrack with a bevy of songs that I love listing to still. The Shakespeare references can make any theater person geek-out. Allison Janney and her romance novels? They could make a whole movie out of that. Julia Stiles and Larisa Oleynik are two sisters that can drive any man crazy, in a good way. Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Heather Ledger would make Lady MacBeth swoon. Excellent and fun movie!

Batman (1989)

Ever dance with the Devil in the pale moonlight? Tim Burton’s vision of Batman is a dark and creepy one, but I like it! I thought the sets were really cool and the makeup work was really great with the Joker. Jack Nicholson was a fantastic Joker with his signature creepy smile. I was less than satisfied with Michael Keaton. He was a pretty good Batman, but a terrible Bruce Wayne… and really does Bruce Wayne wear glasses? The scene in the art gallery is very memorable and the soundtrack with all the Prince music is just hilarious. The score by Danny Elfman is very thrilling. It’s not a bad Batman film at all, especially when you watch a few more down the line. Oh just wait.

Trainspotting (1996)

There aren’t any heroines in this film, just heroin. Danny Boyle’s very stylistic film about this drug taking over the lives of a group of friends in Scotland is a blast to watch. I was especially thrilled by Boyle’s excellent pizzazz that the film brings. There are two scenes in particular that I love, when Ewan McGregor falls through the carpet like quicksand, and McGregor’s detox scene with the baby on the ceiling. McGregor was excellent for sure and I loved his scenes with Kelly MacDonald. I normally dislike movies just about drugs but this one kept my attention and was pretty interesting and enjoyable.

Dumb and Dumber (1994)

I feel like someone sold me a headless bird. No, this movie wasn’t that bad… it did seem like it was a lot more funny in the past though… Dumb and Dumber was pretty dumb, in kind of a good way. It does have some good quotables and some memorable scenes but I did feel bored quite a few times throughout the film. Carrey and Daniels were a good duo of idiocy and Lauren Holly is a dream, but I guess I just feel disappointed. I do remember buying the soundtrack to this, and the songs are just as good as before. I just wish I could say that I like it… a … lot but I can’t, it was just good, not excellent.

True Lies (1994)

GET DOWN! … with this awesome action flick! Arnold has a pretty good time taking terrorists down a peg and also being really funny. This is one of those action films from the 90’s that stick with you. The humor throughout is great, it really ramps up when Bill Paxton hits the scene as the sleazy used-car salesman who pretends to be a spy to get chicks. Tom Arnold is also a good sidekick for Arnold. Jamie Lee Curtis and Tia Carrere bring the sexy back to action. All the while this movie will entertain you with violence, explosions, harrier jets and nukes! Come with me if you want to live!
