Zero Dark Thirty

The best part and worst part about Zero Dark Thirty is its length. On most films I would say this is hellishly long, but with a square head on my shoulders I know that the tale of killing UBL was an upward climb from the start. This movie had to be long and I was glad for it. I was captivated by everything in this film. I loved Chastain’s performance the most but I just love the feeling of a decade long manhunt that ends in justice for a Nation. A Best Picture nominee.

To Rome with Love

This movie wasn’t an abject failure but it wasn’t a success either. All the characters were delightful in some ways but if you ask me what this movie is about I would say… how the hell should I know? Was Alec Baldwin really there or was he a narrator? Why does Woody Allen act? Does he think he is Larry David and is funny? What the heck was up with the whole Roberto Benigni storyline? This movie leaves you with more questions than answers. The only redeemable thing is that it can make you laugh.

Dredd

A solid action film where they do something interesting. They never show the hero’s face even once. I thought that was an interesting choice. Karl urban once again shows he can do action and Olivia Thirlby goes from tween in Juno to badass in Dredd. I liked the proper mix of action and sci-fi. The guns were also really neat with DNA imprinting and different ammo modes which felt like a video game. I would call this the American version of The Raid: Redemption.

About Cherry

Aside from Ashley Hinshaw being a complete Goddess, this movie was as flaccid as… week old lettuce. I kept waiting for something, anything to redeem this film and all it left me with was blue… feelings toward the writing. I mean it’s not hard to at least end a movie decently is it? They couldn’t have gone for some kind of money shot at the end? Sadly, I’ve seen some adult titles with a little more follow-through. Oh Graham and Franco… what happened? Oh well at least Hinshaw is still hot.

The Possession

I have to give this film credit… it is a piece about possession that doesn’t involve Catholicism. I liked the Jewish take on the subject of exorcisms. Now, past the creative religious spin, this movie was pretty generic. It followed just about all the same paths that exorcism movies go by ever since the Exorcist. None of the acting was really stellar and Kyra Sedgwick was a snooze. Jeffrey Dean Morgan did ok and of course a creepy little girl was used.

Taken 2

A sluggish start that leads into action mayhem. Liam Neeson once again proves you don’t need to be young to be an excellent action star. I was happy to see Maggie Grace not playing an underage girl since in the first movie she really didn’t pull that off. I wasn’t a big fan of the protective father and worrying about the boyfriend thing, it was unnecessary to the plot. Otherwise Neeson kicked butts and took names, I wish Janssen would have had a bigger role. She was mainly just tied up.

30 Nights of Paranormal Activity with the Devil Inside the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

A spoof that tackles mostly Paranormal Activity but also hits upon The Devil Inside, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and shows like Storage Wars and The Apprentice. There are a lot of poorly written jokes in here that mostly involve sex or bodily functions. I laughed a few times for a short period of time but mainly sat there in silence as the jokes kept falling flat. I did like the main actress she reminded me of Anna Faris. Otherwise this movie is hardly worth the plastic it’s printed on.
